Built in secret by the young slave Anakin Skywalker, this shiny blue and silver Podracer was boasted to be the fastest ever to compete in the Boonta Eve Classic. It wasn't idle puffery by its creator -- when thrown into the cutthroat racing competition, this Podracer's performance gave Anakin the edge he needed to win the race and his freedom. podracer

 Building the base stand...
I just recently came up with an idea of what kind of base I would use for this model.

I decided to build a kind of rocky surface underneath the pod and have it hang over it.
Here you can see I added the small rocks to the wooden plate. They are glued using wood glue.
 Building the kit...
Like with all kits, I first started with cutting and sanding the parts. I then collected all the parts for a steel paint job.
Here you can see the two main engine tubes and two parts of what soon will become Anakins cart.
The flaps that are on the front of each engine are getting spray painted a flat yellow. Some of the flaps were heated with a lighter and bent slightly which will give the pod a more worn look in the end.
I painted the engine tubes and applied all the various parts that ought to be added. I also carved some of the paint off the red parts to expose the silver colour I applied earlier in order to give it a slightly weathered look.

I tried to weather this kit a little and make it look like it was being used in a race.

 Painting the model...
I used a variety of colours for this kit.

Tamiya Flat Black (colour number 81701)
Tamiya Flat Red (colour number 81707)
Tamiya Flat Yellow (colour number 81703)
Tamiya Flat Flesh (colour number 81715)
Tamiya Deck Tan (colour number 81755)
Tamiya Copper (colour number 81706)
Tamiya White (colour number 81502)
Tamiya Blue (colour number 81504)

Vallejo Pastel Blue (colour number 70901)
Vallejo Silver (colour number 70997)

Polly Scale Stainless Steel (colour number F414296)
 Overall experience...
This was quite a fun kit to build, despite the fact that I once again had some problems with the decals. This time it was the large decal that was supposed to go onto the hood of the pod cart. I completely screwed this one up and decided to hand paint two single stripes.

So the cart is not really resembling the one used in Episode I...

Aside from that it all went together smoothly. I would also like to get my hands on a Sebulba pod once... But I guess that will always be a dream...
